Rogers Krajnak Architects has been commissioned to renovate a unique midcentury modern style residence in Worthington Ohio. The home was built in the 1967 and is set into a dramatic wooded hillside. The home utilizes its surrounding context by providing generous openings to the wooded site. The open concept and ease of living is reflected thought out the interior design and choice of bold stylish furnishings. A master plan has been completed by RKA for the renovation of the midcentury home. The project will be taking place in multiple phases. Phase one consists of an Interior renovation of the kitchen, game room, and lower level bathroom. On the exterior, the shingle cladding will be replaced and repaired. A new contemporary railing design will be added to the multiple outdoor living spaces. On the first floor the new Kitchen design will connect the existing enclosed off kitchen with the main living space beyond. The horizontal elements within the new kitchen relate to the main living space. The small, yet functional kitchen will be kept within its existing footprint respecting the original layout. The bold geometric tile pattern and new stainless steel countertop adds a fresh modern touch to the design. The new clear finished oak cabinets will brighten up the kitchen while maintaining the simplistic lines and type of wood used in the existing home. The lower level the game room gets as fresh new look with the addition of a curved wall that transitions the mudroom into the game room. The wall is a functional storage space and display area for the lower level. The lower level bathroom layout will be an efficient and streamline design. The bathroom combines the strong colors of the tile with the natural wood and wall materials. Externally the shingle cladding will be replaced and repaired to restore the original appearance of the home. The existing wrought iron railing is being replaced with a new modern design. The railing is a clever blend of modern steel with a natural wood handrail. The sleek design adds a modern touch that is in keeping with the original design.
