Community Center Renovation In Progress

The exciting new vision for the Bridge at Beatty community center is emerging this fall with distinctive ceiling finishes, wall colors, flooring, millwork, and lighting. Underutilized spaces have been reconfigured for enhanced programmatic functionality. The grime and gloom of the fire-damaged gymnasium have been thoroughly effaced with remediation.  Structural repairs, new finishes, improved lighting, and hand-painted super-graphic words of encouragement will enable the gymnasium, dating back to 1926, to continue fostering competitive sports skills training.

Construction Begins on RKA City of Columbus Project

The City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department (CRPD) commissioned RKA in early 2025 to plan and design a vibrant renovation of the Beatty Community Center, located in the King-Lincoln Bronzeville neighborhood. After completing existing conditions analysis and programming for the facility, which had previously incurred significant damage in August 2024 associated with a fire in the gymnasium, RKA worked with CRPD leaders and team members to re-envision a fully restored gymnasium and an upgraded interior environment to complement new spaces for skills development and recreational activities. Construction has now begun, and RKA is excited to observe the progress being made this summer on the repair and renovation of this community asset.

RKA Mid-Century Modern Renovation Nearing Completion

Construction is nearing completion on the Phase 1 Renovation for this Mid-Century Modern house, and custom cabinets have been installed.

As this Mid-Century Modern house had not been updated since its original construction, great care was taken to design new elements that relate to the existing house, and help preserve the house's historic character.

The Phase 1 construction now in progress includes a complete renovation of the kitchen and renovation of several adjoining spaces. By removing a wall, raising a ceiling in the Kitchen, and removing a folding partition, the central kitchen, dining, and pantry areas to flow together, and reinforce the existing connections to the rest of the house. New finishes, appliances, and a new layout of new custom cabinets update both the function and aesthetic of the central kitchen and dining space, while still being complementary to the original house. New LED lighting is installed throughout the house, to improve the existing lighting, and simplify maintenance. New finishes and cabinetry in the Laundry and Powder Rooms also update the house and improve function in these spaces.

The future Phase 2 construction of the project will include a Master Suite renovation and addition. You can see more about the project on our website here:

Jewel Box Glitters Once Again

The exterior of the iconic Louis Sullivan Bank of Newark has been beautifully restored to its original glory.  Designed in 1914 by noted American Architect Louis Sullivan as one of eight “jewel box” banks, the building suffered through decades of neglect, vacancy, and unsympathetic alterations including the removal of the corner of the main entry and loss of many original terra cotta units.  With its current owner, the Licking County Foundation, Rogers Krajnak Architects, Danis Construction, Conrad Schmitt Studios, and Lang Masonry, have painstakingly restored the exterior of the building.  New terra cotta units were created and installed where the original terra cotta units were damaged or missing.  The missing pieces of the intricate glass and gold mosaics were recreated, and the mosaics were cleaned.  The original opalescent glass and zinc came windows were repaired, and new doors were created.  The building is now illuminated at night and stands proudly on its prominent corner near the county courthouse.  We celebrate the completion of the exterior renovation and look forward to the next phase of the project which will include the interior restoration of this magnificent building.
